Some Christians think that they're able to tell which people are "close to being saved". Usually those are the people who are already trying to live a life that the rest of society finds respectable...you know, being polite, working hard, loving your family, mowing your lawn, and not torturing animals.

It comes as a surprise to some that it's often those who are farthest from a life considered respectable that are closest to turning to God...you know, like used car salesmen, politicians, pornographers.
