2nd Grader's Art Labeled Violent

When will it end?

Little kids are too often targeted by 'zero tolerance' policies at public schools. On December 2nd, a Massachusetts second-grader was sent home for drawing a picture. His teacher considered the drawing "violent". A psychological evaluation was ordered, and the child couldn't return to school until he was cleared.

Why did the teacher (and his administrators) consider the drawing violent? Why was the second-grader kicked out of school? Take a look at the picture:

Zero Tolerance causes 2nd grader to be kicked out of school for being violent after drawing a picture of Jesus on a cross.

Really? Are you kidding me? I'm wondering what school officials would have done if the child had been found to be wearing a crucifix? Would they have reacted in the same way?

The child was allowed to return to school after the psychological evaluation found nothing to indicate that he posed a threat to others. As you might expect, he's been more than a little traumatized over the incident, and the family will be allowed to transfer him to another school. One would certainly hope so.
