My Changes to the Federal Budget

Thu, Jul 29 2010 - 16:41 PM

Recently, in a discussion about economics, I was asked this question: "What specific cuts to the federal budget would you make?". Of course I'm not an expert on government spending, so I couldn't bring solid statistics (specifics) to bear here. I can, however, point to some very sound logical starting points. I'd love to hear your thoughts on these...and please remember that they're not the result of hours of serious study. I wrote them off the top of my head, so they're neither complete nor per...

The Current State of Economics in the European Union (Subtitle: Tell me you didn't see this one coming from the very beginning)

Mrs. GodWords and I cut up our credit cards in 1990. Yes, I know that was before some of you were born...but it wasn't before we were born. We'd been married a year, and already felt that we were out of control with our spending. No, we hadn't racked up $50,000 in credit card debt. It was just a few thousand, but we - being a youth minister and a school teacher - knew that we needed to change our ways if we were to avoid more trouble. We went to a debt counseling service, and someone helped us ...

Facts about the Banking Crisis

Think you're mad about the AIG executive bonuses? Think again after watching this video. Fox News anchor Shepard Smith is obviously angry after watching the US Congress pretend to be outraged over the issue. They removed a provision that would have blocked the bonuses before they passed it! Now...where I come from, pretending to now know something you obviously know is called the same thing as pretending you didn't do something you obviously did. It's A LIE. ...

Peter Schiff Analogies

Wed, Dec 10 2008 - 13:22 PM

In light of the fact that economist Peter Schiff was right - last year and the year before - about our current economic climate, I'm inclined to listen more closely to what he's saying. I'm not drinking the kool-aid or anything, but he obviously knows something that the other talking heads do not. ...

Peter Schiff was RIGHT.

Fri, Nov 14 2008 - 09:42 AM

A very instructive video. Honestly, because I don't watch a lot of finance TV, I didn't know who Peter Schiff is. I do now, and I appreciate his willingness to stick to his guns when people were making fun of him. This video is almost 10 minutes long...pretend it's a segment on your favorite cable news channel and hang in there. There are multiple clips, not just one conversation. After you watch, keep reading. Now: a couple of things come to mind that I'd like to address. First,...

The Alternative to a Free Market

Wed, Jul 23 2008 - 12:25 PM

This is an election year in America. In a two-party system, both sides - conservative and liberal - want to win. Both sides generally pander to those in the middle to make sure they get enough votes to get or maintain control.2008 won't be any different in that respect. There will be one new twist, however...and some will stare in disbelief with their mouths hanging open. The rest will think that it's 'about time'. What's the twist? This fall, Americans will hear from liberals 'experts' that a fr...
